Walk in the Truth

cross copyYesterday I spent time meditating in 2 John. This is a very short letter (13 verses) from the Beloved Apostle whom Jesus loved. What stood out to me was his emphasis on “truth”. He referenced “truth” 5 times in the first 4 verses. Clearly this is what the Church needed to hear then … and now.

Then he warns about those who’ve left the “truth”.

“For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist.” (2 John 7)

Wow, do you get that? There are many deceivers. They come in all flavors … some even belong to churches … some are ordained “Christian ministers”.

We can’t do anything about what someone else believes but there is something we can do: “Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward. Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son.” (2 John7-9)

“Abide in the teaching of Christ” – that’s the priority. It’s so simple. It’s not about complex theology, it’s not about involvement in ministry activities, it’s not about propagating theological systems and it’s not about being politically correct. It’s just as simple as abiding in the teaching of Christ.

Today, let’s refocus on the priority of pursuing knowing Jesus, walking in His ways and seeking to live according to His priorities. If we do this we will walk in the truth.

Looking to Jesus,
