Yesterday we spent some time on the Mount of Olives overlooking Jerusalem and where the Temple was located. As Jesus and the disciples left Jerusalem after a day of ministry, the disciples pointed out the glory and beauty of the temple. Jesus said not one stone will be left on another. That was such a shocking statement, they were speechless. Later as Jesus sat on the Mt of Olives, the disciples came to Him asking when this will happen?
Then Jesus gave a lengthy teaching on His return (Matt 25-26). Most of us who read the Bible realize we are in the last days. The Lord could tarry for a long time or He could come today. Looking around our world, the evil and lawlessness is on an exponential increase. Persecutions and hardness of heart to Christlikeness are growing rapidly at a global level. The signs of His coming are increasing by the month it seems.
Then there is Jerusalem. Jesus wept only three times – once when His friend Lazarus died, at the Garden just before being betrayed by Judas and then once over Jerusalem. Jerusalem is the seat of His coming earthly reign when He returns.
All of these things were running through my mind as we sat on the Mt. of Olives overlooking Jerusalem. The question is, am I ready for His return?
