What Was, Will Be

I was meditating in Ecclesiastes this morning: “That which has been is that which will be, and that which has been done is that which will be done. So there is nothing new under the sun.” (Eccl 1:9) When we look at life purely from a naturalistic point of view, life, in its endless cycles can be depressing. Much can be said about the Book of Ecclesiastes which I won’t take time to do here.

Then my thoughts turned toward 1 Corinthians 15:58 and I found hope and perspective. “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of The Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in The Lord.”

Yes, we are eternal creatures, with an eternal destiny. Those in Christ will reign with Him for ever and ever. What joy that will be. What hope that is today.

So in the meantime, let us abound in the work of The Lord.
