Recently I was reading in Joel. The Lord declared that judgement was coming
– “the great and terrible day of the Lord.” What struck me was not the
declaration of coming judgement but rather God’s declaration of His love,
forgiveness and mercy.
“Yet even now,” declares the LORD, “Return to Me with all your heart, And
with fasting, weeping and mourning; And rend your heart and not your
garments.” Now return to the LORD your God, For He is gracious and
compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in loving-kindness And relenting of
evil.” (Joel 2:12-13).
We live in difficult times. The Lord could return at any time. He calls us
to live godly lives and in every way, to return to Him with all our hearts.
Spend some time asking Him to search your hearts and confess any sin He
points out. Cling to Him because He is gracious and compassionate, slow to
anger, abounding in loving-kindness and relenting from evil.
