President, Premier, Dictator, or King are titles given in nations to indicate who has the most authority. Though it always has limits, at a human and national level their authority is beyond comprehension for almost all of us. But the most powerful of these rulers is less than a fly compared to the authority of Jesus.
Jesus says, “All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me,” (Matt. 28:18). This is total, absolute authority. There is none to compare. No nation, collection of nations or the most powerful rulers of all of history can compete with Jesus’ authority. This is true as well, of Satan and all of his followers whose defeat is already accomplished and destruction certain.
It is in this context that Jesus says, “As you go, make disciples of all peoples …” (Matt. 28:19-20) This is what motivates us and gives us authority to follow Him and His mandates in our world and around the world.
In light of Jesus’ authority, ask yourself, “What is holding me back?” “What does He want me to do?”
