This morning I spent some time pondering the Exodus. You know the story of the plagues that the Lord poured out on the Egyptians.
Several verses underscore the power, precision and finality of the Lord’s dealings with Pharaoh.
- “For the Lord will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two door posts, the Lord will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your houses to smite you.” (Ex 12:23)
- “…for there was no home where there was not someone dead.” (Ex 12:30)
- “Thus they plundered the Egyptians.” (Ex 12:36)
- “Now the time that the sons of Israel lived in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years. And at the end of four hundred and thirty years, to the very day, all the hosts of the Lord went out from the land of Egypt.” (Ex 12:40-41)
This is just staggering — a slave peoples plundered the most powerful nation on the earth at that time. The Lord did this as he said and did it with finality. There was no question Who was and is the God of the universe.
Today, each of us faces questions of Who is in control. What will happen? We don’t know the details but we do know Who is in charge.
Take a moment to thank Him for His watch-care over you.
