For the past several weeks, believers around the world have been celebrating Advent – a season of waiting, praying, and hoping for the coming of the Messiah. It’s a time to reflect on Jesus’ first coming as a babe in a manger, combined with and an eager anticipation of his second coming. It marks where we currently stand in history and acknowledges our longing for things that are not yet.
In the words of J. Haynes, “Observing Advent provides us an opportunity to slow down and participate in a daily rhythm of prayer and scripture reading which prepares and points our hearts toward the Christ who is our greatest treasure, our greatest joy, and our greatest good.”
As we approach Christmas this year, take a moment to pause and ponder Christ, our greatest treasure, our greatest joy, our greatest good. And in that space of stillness, rejoice!
I encourage you to listen to the lyrics of this song, “All is Well.”
All is well all is well
Angels and men rejoice
For tonight darkness fell
Into the dawn of love’s light
In the midst of busyness and all that goes on in the world, all truly is well.
Emmanuel, God with us.
